In Western astrology, your "big three" are the Sun, Moon and Rising (Ascendant) signs. The Sun sign is the one you already know from horoscopes, the Moon sign is linked to moods and comfort needs, and the Rising sign is read as the style people notice first. Three signs say a lot more than one, which is why "what's your big three?" has become the standard astrology icebreaker.

This calculator works out all three from your birth date, birth time and birth city. Planet positions come from the astronomy-engine library on the tropical zodiac used by most Western astrologers, and your city supplies the time zone (including historical daylight saving time) and the coordinates the Ascendant needs. That matters on cusp birthdays: the Sun changes sign around the 18th–23rd of each month and the exact date shifts from year to year, so the calculation checks where the Sun actually was.

No birth time? You still get your Sun sign and a Moon sign calculated for noon. The Moon moves about 13° a day and changes sign every two to three days, so on a sign-change day your Moon may be the neighbouring sign. The Rising sign changes roughly every two hours, so it only appears when you enter a time. Each result card shows the sign, its element and a short reading, plus an element tally across the three. Free, no sign-up — the astronomy is real, the readings are for fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. What is my big three in astrology?

    A. Your big three are your Sun, Moon and Rising (Ascendant) signs. In Western astrology the Sun is linked to your core identity, the Moon to emotions and the Rising sign to the first impression you give.

  • Q. How is the big three calculated?

    A. From your birth date, time and city. The Sun and Moon positions are calculated on the tropical zodiac, and the city provides the time zone and latitude/longitude needed for the Ascendant.

  • Q. Can I find my big three without a birth time?

    A. Partly. The Sun sign and a noon-based Moon sign are shown, but the Rising sign is left out. If the Moon changed signs on your birthday, your actual Moon sign may be the next or previous sign.

  • Q. Why does the Rising sign need an exact birth time?

    A. The Ascendant is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon, and it moves into a new sign roughly every two hours. A time that is off by an hour can change the result.
